The return of clearcutting

The Forest Service is becoming more aggressive in its fight against the pine beetle epidemic in Colorado, the Aspen Times reported. A proposal called the Upper Eagle River Beetle Salvage Project aims to clearcut 2,300 acres of dead and dying trees before they hit the ground in the hopes of preventing forest fires and stemming the beetle’s advance.
