Ritter calls for mitigating damage to Roan Plateau

In the midst of Colorado’s 120-day review of the federal government’s plan to allow energy development on the top of the Roan Plateau, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D) told environmental groups yesterday that the state should focus on mitigating the impacts of the development rather than preventing the federal government’s plans, the Denver Post reported. Although Ritter said the economic benefits of drilling don’t outweigh the damage caused by disturbance of a “largely untouched” wilderness, Ritter made no promises that he would stop the plans from moving forward.
