FWS to review status of greater sage-grouse
Posted by egable on February 26th, 2008 filed in Endangered speciesThe greater sage-grouse will receive additional review to determine whether the species warrants protection under the Endangered Species Act, the Fish and Wildlife Service announced today.
The status review will take into account relevant new information that has become available since the agency’s 2005 finding that the species did not warrant protection under the ESA. A recent court decision on a suit filed by Western Watersheds Project required FWS to re-examine this decision.
Greater sage-grouse are found in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
FWS is accepting public comments until May 27.
