RMNP to spray for beetles

Rocky Mountain National Park is planning to apply the insecticide Carbaryl to as many as 5,000 high-value trees to protect them from the bark beetle, park officials announced today. About the same number of trees were treated last year in the park, and most treated trees were not attacked by bark beetles.

The park is planning to spend $600,000 on bark beetle mitigation efforts this year, including spraying, tree removal and temporary closures. That’s almost six times what the park spent last year.
