$74M slated for Colorado energy, water projects

The energy and water appropriations bill for fiscal year 2009, approved today by the Senate Appropriations Committee, includes $74.4 million for projects in and around Colorado.

The funding includes:

* $50 million for the Animas-La Plata  water project ($9 million below the president’s request), which will provide water for 100,000 people in Colorado and New Mexico;

* $1 million for Colorado State University’s Smart Grid Simulation Lab;

* $2.42 million for operations and maintenance at the John Martin Reservoir, $1.29 million for the Trinidad Lake project, $1.5 million for the Chatfield Lake project and $1.2 million for the Cherry Creek Lake project;

* $15 million for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; and

* $1.5 million for a carbon sequestration demonstration project.
