Animas River group presses Congress to pass Good Samaritan bill

The Animas River Stakeholders Group was formed 14 years ago to clean up heavy-metal contamination left behind by decades of mining, spending about $32 million to clean up the basin, but the group says it won’t be able to finish the job until Congress passes “Good Samaritan” legislation, which offers liability protection to groups that take on projects to clean up water sullied by mining waste, the Durango Herald reports.
