Rep. McKinley asks Army to stop Pinon Canyon expansion efforts
Posted by egable on August 5th, 2008 filed in MilitaryIn response to the recent news that the Army hopes to acquire 100,000 more acres in the southeast Colorado for expansion of the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site, state Rep. Wes McKinley (D) has written to top Army officials asking that they cease any attempts to expand the training site.
McKinley, a long-time foe of the PCMS expansion whose House district encompasses all of the current and proposed PCMS, cited the Colorado law that he guided through the legislature in 2007 that prohibits the Defense Department from acquiring land for the expansion.
“I want the Army to cease efforts to acquire additional land for the site by eminent domain or through any other means,” McKinley wrote.
