The Bureau of Land Management’s White River Field Office is set to begin a 300-acre prescribed burn 10 miles east of Rangely as early as tomorrow.

The burn, south of Highway 64 in Lower Fletcher Gulch, is scheduled to begin Wednesday if weather is favorable. It will take two to three days to complete.

BLM officials said the goal for this prescribed burn is to reduce hazardous wildfire fuels in the area, reducing the potential of a larger wildfire that could result in high suppression costs and potentially burn more area than desired. Additional goals are to improve wildlife habitat and enhance healthy vegetation composition and diversity.
